Course overview

The course reviews the factors contributing to dysphagia, aspiration, and aspiration pneumonia risk in patients who have a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease. Further evaluation of conditions related to malnutrition and a loss of skeletal muscle mass are explored. Dysphagia-related case studies in cervical spine surgery are also discussed as well as essential concepts for dysphagia rehabilitation across the various settings. Assessments and tools for dysphagia evaluations are elucidated and everyday clinical applications for physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy are documented.
