Continuing the Conversation: The Ying & Yang Relationship Between Leadership and Management
Tracking # 20-797817
Course overview
All too often, we as Lab Leaders draw a distinct line between our "leader" & "manager" behaviors. This differentiation begins in academia, where these subjects are often presented as opposing styles, leading to a widely accepted misconception that "leadership=good" & "management=bad"! This presentation will discuss the complementary, not opposing, nature of leadership and management. It will also show how, while complementary, they do need to exist in a fluid "ying-yang" relationship. Finally, we will examine a few examples which demonstrate this "ying-yang" and how leaders can effectively employ both synergistically.
