Hospice encompasses is a program that provides physical, psychosocial and spiritual care for the terminally ill individual and their family through interdisciplinary team of professionals in home, inpatient settings, and nursing home settings. Hospice care is a growing segment of the healthcare continuum. Hospice strives to ensure patient's goals of care at end of life are met. Hospice is not a place of care, rather a philosophy of care, delivered by an interdisciplinary group of healthcare professionals. It is important for all nurses who provide care to individuals at the end-of-life to understand the concepts of hospice care should they be working with a hospice client.
