Course overview
CENTRAL CORD SYNDROME IS THE MOST COMMON TYPE OF INCOMPLETE CORD INJURY AND ALMOST ALWAYS OCCURS DUE TO A TRAUMATIC INJURY. IT RESULTS IN MOTOR DEFICITS THAT ARE WORSE IN THE UPPER EXTREMITIES AS COMPARED TO THE LOWER EXTREMITIES. IT MAY ALSO CAUSE BLADDER DYSFUNCTION (RETENTION) AND VARIABLE SENSORY DEFICITS BELOW THE LEVEL OF INJURY. THIS ACTIVITY REVIEWS THE ETIOLOGY, PRESENTATION, EVALUATION, AND MANAGEMENT OF CENTRAL CORD SYNDROME AND DISCUSSES THE ROLE OF THE INTERPROFESSIONAL TEAM IN EVALUATING, DIAGNOSING, AND MANAGING THE CONDITION.
