Course overview

OSTEOPOROSIS IS A BONE DISORDER WHICH IS CHARACTERIZED BY A DECREASE IN BONE STRENGTH, RESULTING FROM REDUCED BONE MINERAL DENSITY, MICROARCHITECTURAL DISRUPTION, AND SKELETAL FRAGILITY, THEREBY CAUSING AN INCREASED RISK OF FRACTURE. SECONDARY OSTEOPOROSIS, WHICH OCCURS DUE TO THE PRESENCE OF UNDERLYING DISEASE OR MEDICATIONS, CAN ALSO LEAD TO LOW BONE MASS, RESULTING IN INCREASED RISK OF FRACTURES. THIS ACTIVITY HIGHLIGHTS THE ROLE OF THE INTERPROFESSIONAL TEAM IN THE MANAGEMENT OF PATIENTS WITH OSTEOPOROSIS.
