Course overview
Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an evidence-based practice developed to assist clients through the change process. This training will review a brief history of MI, evidence that supports this effective practice and updates throughout the 3rd edition. This training will apply interactive methods to enhance the learning experience through: videos of MI in practice, exercises, role plays, demonstrations, and assessment through simulated encounters. Participants will obtain general knowledge in the four processes of engaging, evoking, focusing, and planning. Upon completion, participants will have developed proficiency in the following microskills: open ended questions, affirmations, empathic reflections, and summaries. These skills are practiced throughout the four processes to support people in resolving the common problem of ambivalence with the overarching goal of making healthy life changes.
