Course overview

With the clarification of Medicare's No Improvement Standard and with the changing focus of healthcare from volume to value based service, the paradigm for therapy documentation has shifted from progress to documentation that, first and foremost, provides evidence for the skill of the intervention. This course provides an overview of the history of Medicare's No Improvement Standard and guidelines for how to determine which patients may qualify for skilled maintenance therapy care under the Medicare Part B benefit. The course also provides definitions to increase the learner's understanding of the variances that exist between coverage and payment and then uses case studies and practical step-by-step guidance to facilitate documentation that establishes medical necessity for therapy services whether the intervention is rehabilitative or maintenance therapy care. The learner will also be provided with specific strategies to respond to a Targeted Probe & Educate (TPE).
