The Immune System referred to as Wei Qi in energetic medicine is a vital component to physiology and health. The strength of ones Wei Qi is critical for protection from diseases originating internally and externally. When Wei Qi is weak pathogens from the environment including those of a bacterial or viral nature can easily penetrate. Alternatively when the individuals Wei Qi is strong these external pathogens cannot enter the body and if they do the body can easily rid itself of them. Wei Qi is mentioned throughout the ancient medical texts in particular the Ling Shu dedicates several chapters to Wei Qi offering specific acupuncture and moxibustion techniques to increase its formation and circulation. In addition the ancient medical texts outline the evolution of the progression of viral penetration in the individual host calling it wind cold or wind heat invasion. They describe distinguishing symptoms that reveal the pathogens level of progression and depth of penetration. Based on this the texts offer an array of acupuncture treatments and curious points to release and expel the pathogen restoring physiological homeostasis within the individual. This five hour course will review the signs and symptoms associated with a virus progression covering treatments for the flu bronchitis and pneumonia determining the most efficacious treatment to expel the pathogen and curtail the progression of disease. More importantly it will include treatment strategies for strengthening the immune system and preventing the invasion of external pathogens.
