Program content: This is a one day seminar for health care professionals who are interested in learning more about identifying elderly who are at risk for falls and intervening to prevent the fall. This seminar begins with a background of how falls and immobility impact the elderly and then several fall risk screens are reviewed. There will be an opportunity to practice some of these screens. Then, we will begin discussion of treatment techniques which may be used with the elderly to help them decrease their risk for a fall I including education, geri-dance, relaxation techniques, breathing and energy conservation techniques, other exercises, and the participants will be able to participate with a tai chi video class led by a tai chi master. The class will conclude with small group case study.
