Course overview

Discussion of the management of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) based on the 2019 updates of the American Thoracic Society (ATS) and Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) guidelines. Topics include pathophysiology and clinical presentation of CAP, the major pathogens causing CAP, patient stratification in CAP, the creation of an empiric treatment regimen for a patient with CAP based on severity of illness (outpatient vs. inpatient/ICU), and risk factors for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)/pseudomonas.
