Course overview
What we have come to know today as craniosacral work, no matter what kind, originated from William G. Sutherland, D.O. He would make reference to the Breath of Life, Primary Respiration, and the Tide when describing the emotive force behind the subtle movements of the craniosacral system. These words were not just metaphors. During the Initiatory Course you will learn to touch in a way that is non-efferent (neutral), non-doing, and in tonal match with Primary Respiration. Through experience with an array of embodiment practices, you learn to directly access primary respiration in your inner body. Ceasing all efferent activity and intervention, without being overly distant or unresponsive while touching another, you learn to relax into Stillness and abide in your natural state -- while letting "what is" be as it is. In our school, we earnestly heed Dr. Sutherland's guidance: "trust the Tide", leaving it completely free to heal from within. Dr. Sutherland ardently asked biodynamic practitioners to allow physiologic function from "within" to manifest its own "unerring potency", rather than to apply "blind force" from without. And in our practice, we strictly abide by his injunction. We follow Dr. Sutherland's profound insights into biodynamics. Through present-sensing awareness practices, we are inwardly led to powerful encounters with Primary Respiration of the Breath of Life.
