Course overview

The University of South Florida offers this online ALF Core Training course to prepare prospective assisted living facility administrators to take Florida mandated competency exam. The 26 hour course meets the requirements established in Florida Statute 429.52 and Florida Administrative Code 58A 5.0191. The 100 percent online format allows students to work at their own pace from virtually anywhere and on almost any device to complete the 26 hour course. Students can register for this course at any time and get started immediately to review materials. The course contains 11 modules and provides access to all required legislative and regulatory materials that govern the operations of Florida assisted living communities. Each unit also includes a Power Point presentation that summarize the legislative and regulatory issues, contains vocabulary terms to learn, and includes knowledge checks that can be reviewed repeatedly. Video clips include interviews with AL staff and administrators who provide insights into assisted living communities. To progress to the next unit, students must pass a 10 item quiz at a minimum of 80 percent. Quizzes can be taken as many times as needed to reach the 80 percent standard.
