From the phone messages that receptionists leave for patients to the type of information that is shared with third parties when submitting insurance claims, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) impacts almost every aspect of the health care system. Health care professionals, including pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, may be penalized or face fines and legal and professional consequences if they fail to comply with stringent HIPAA requirements. This one-hour course provides an overview of HIPAA and its requirements for health care professionals as well as steps that pharmacists and pharmacy technicians can take to comply with these requirements. Participants can complete this course at their own pace from their computer or mobile device.
