Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an exciting, new model of behavioral treatment that has broad empirical support and has gained an international following. ACT emphasizes acceptance of emotion and thought while maintaining a focus on positive behavior change that is meaningful and consistent with one's personal values. ACT uses a variety of verbal and experiential contact with previously avoided internal experiences while also making and keeping commitments that lead to powerful life enhancing choices. The workshop will discuss and demonstrate ACT techniques that maybe broadly useful for intervening with multi-problem patients dealing with issues such as anxiety, substance abuse, depression, and PTSD
