Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive, neurodegenerative disorder that affects movement, muscle control, and balance as well as numerous other bodily functions. As PD is the most common movement disorder and the second most common neurodegenerative disorder following Alzheimer's disease, it is important for clinical staff to recognize the classic presentation in the individuals that they care for. Safety remains a concern for those persons with PD; staff should monitor for safety issues and implement person-centered interventions to promote quality of care and good outcomes for these individuals.
