ED Workplace Violence is something all ED staff experience - from patients and visitors alike. Those patients with acute symptoms of mental illness pose a particular challenge. Serious harm to staff, as well as the long-term impact of consistent abuse, results in employee trauma which ultimately diminishes levels of safety for both patients and staff. This course will review the rate of violence in the ED, discuss the issue of workplace violence, and provide practical strategies that mitigate risk of harm to staff.
