Clinical Dermatology I: Diagnosis and Clinical Management of Common Dermatologic Problems

Course overview

This course will focus on care of clients with dermatologic conditions including advanced assessment, diagnoses, management and monitoring of common dermatoses presenting to nurse practitioners specializing in dermatology practice. Emphasis will be placed on comprehensive patient assessment through differential diagnosis and selection of appropriate diagnostic procedures. Students will learn about therapeutic options, patient monitoring and appropriate collaboration, consultation and referral in dermatologic care. A review of current ICD 10 coding will be highlighted for use in clinical practice. Specialty content will be delivered through a competency-based curriculum using on-line didactic sessions, portfolio, group work for development of critical thinking , and one weekend on-campus session for virtual patient sessions and dermatology procedural workshop. Students will be required to complete 160 clinical hours with an approved dermatology preceptor in their community
