Course overview

The goal of this CEU course is to establish the physical therapy treatment of Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS) and examine the barriers that stop physiotherapists from increasing strength and flexibility in the given population. This course revolves around a study that used focus groups to discuss the knowledge, experience, and opinions of twelve different physical therapists in the UK. They examined various ideas about why this syndrome can be challenging to treat, and came up with hypotheses such as differences in outcome measures, departmental strengths of a hospital vs an athletic based clinic, patient compliance, and biomechanical factors. They also discussed characteristics that depend on the patients with PFPS and changes in exercise prescription, as well as the contradictions of physiotherapists beliefs regarding their practice. The reading materials for this course includes an article from the Journal of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation.
