This talk will describe methods that can be employed in healthcare settings to optimize laboratory testing for infectious syndromes, and how that stewardship of laboratory testing may impact antibiotic use. Infectious syndromes that will be discussed include Clostridioides difficile and other gastrointestinal infections, urinary tract infections, and respiratory infections. Attendees will be able to apply learnings to case scenarios and to discuss laboratory stewardship interventions that may be employed to optimize antibiotic use. Learning Objectives: Explain how stewardship of laboratory tests can impact antimicrobial use. Apply laboratory stewardship testing techniques and subsequent antibiotic recommendations to a patient case. Discuss laboratory stewardship interventions that could optimize antimicrobial use.
