Course overview

In Substance Misuse Prevention for Young Adults , participants will begin with an introduction to an evidence-based resource guide series. Participants will then learn about the magnitude of substance misuse during young adulthood, factors that contribute to increased risk generally and for specific population groups, as well as applications for prevention. Then, Participants will learn about current evidence of effectiveness of programs and practices to prevent substance misuse by young adults. Next, Participants will explore examples of programs that use evidence-based practices for preventing substance misuse by young adults and practical information to consider when selecting and implementing programs and practices to prevent substance misuse by young adults. Participants will then be equipped with tools and resources to implement evidence-based programs and practices, monitor outcomes, and improve quality. This course is intended to familiarize drug and alcohol treatment service providers, mental health service providers, peer recovery support specialists, behavioral health program managers, directors, and administrators, clinical supervisors, and healthcare providers with guidelines to prevent substance misuse in young adults.
