Course overview
This course discusses HIV and substance abusing in the aging population. Other comorbidities examined are alcohol and smoking tobacco. The first article includes: the prevalence of substance use among older people living with HIV (OPLWH), comorbidities of OLPWH, psychosocial influences on OLPWH who use substances, recommendations for care providers, training/continuing education needs for staff in facilities with OPLWH. The second article is a pilot study that examines the prevalence of substance misuse among OLPWH, breaking down specific drug use in the population.
