Learner Objectives: As a result of having attended the meeting, the participants should have had the opportunity to: 1. Characterize the clinical features of immersion pulmonary edema (swimming-related pulmonary edema, SIPE). 2. Describe the risk factors for development of SIPE and the recommended follow-up tests after resolution. 3. To highlight the characteristics of identified incidents of immersion pulmonary edema. 4. To understand the importance of appropriate first aid, medical treatment, early cardiorespiratory investigations and recommendations for IPE patients. 5. To collate and analyze the demographics, health characteristics and diving activities of individuals diagnosed with likely IPE. 6. To explain how age and other predisposing factors contributed to IPE. 7. To understand the diagnosis of the grade of medical collateral ligament (MCL) injury by manual examination. 8. To explain effects of hyperbaric oxygen on soft tissue injury. 9. Outline the pathophysiology of arterial gas embolism. 10. Describe the various clinical scenarios in which arterial gas embolism can be observed. 11. List the first aid and definitive treatment modalities for arterial gas embolism. 12. Describe scenarios in which decompression sickness can occur. 13. Reproduce the pathophysiological mechanisms for bubble-induced injury. 14. List the treatment modalities for DCS.
