Course overview

The size and character of the elderly population in the United States is rapidly changing. These major demographic shifts have prompted numerous concerns regarding our health care system's ability to adequately provide services for our aging population. What role will the chiropractic profession play in providing health care for the elderly? The purpose of this seminar is to provide the Doctor of Chiropractic with a comprehensive eight hour analysis of the clinical examination, diagnosis and treatment of the geriatric patient. The course will include an overview of the myriad theories of aging and trends in the elderly population relative to life expectancy, causes of death, disease , disability and health care. The seminar will teach the attendee how to recognize the signs and symptoms of age related conditions and diseases and how to perform appropriate orthopedic and neurologic testing procedures in order to provide an accurate diagnosis and an efficacious course of treatment for the geriatric patient. Upon completion of this continuing education seminar, the Doctor of Chiropractic will have an expanded knowledge base in the area of geriatric case management.
