Course overview

The purpose of this course is to familiarize the learner with digestive-tract ostomies and how to care for residents who have an ostomy. This course engages learners in the pathophysiology of the diseases that require, or result in, digestive tract ostomies; how ostomies are surgically created; and how to assist a resident in caring for an ostomy. Techniques for creating an environment where residents with ostomies feel comfortable is also presented.
