Course overview
Patient education is a key component of wound care nursing. Adequate education can prevent complications of existing wounds and the development of new wounds, empowering patients with the knowledge to promote independence and prioritize self-care. When necessary, referral to specialists and additional services is also an important part of achieving care plan goals. Nurses preparing for the Certified Wound Care Nursing (CWCN) examination must have adequate knowledge to be able to provide these services to their patients. The goal of this course is to provide information on important components of patient education including prevention, wound care, wound management, and identifying and utilizing additional resources.
