Course overview

There are valid industry concerns about the carcinogens emitted by sidestream Moxa smoke in the closed-up confines of a clinic space. Despite 2,500 years of popular usage, Moxibustion cannot escape the modern scrutiny of all combustible smoke inhalation risks, due to the awareness created by the Tobacco health crisis. This course explores research methods applicable to Moxa smoke in the clinic setting, especially methods borrowed from the Tobacco industry that have successfully proved the causality between 'smoking' and Lung Cancer. Mitigation measures are discussed but the main focus is on the modern thermal substitutes, Infrared lamps and hand-held devices, for moxa-averse TCM practitioners wishing to follow the precautionary principle.
