In this video course, you will observe Herb Karpatkin, PT, DSc, NCS, MSCS, a master clinician with over 20 years experience specializing in the treatment of persons with MS, as he examines, assesses and treats a 58 year old woman with a history of MS whom he meets for the first time on camera. Special attention is paid to differentiating between impairments and functional limitations and the relationship between the two. Following the evaluation, Dr. Karpatkin creates a treatment program based on the evaluative findings and then executes the treatment program in the same session as well as in a follow-up session a few days later. Symptoms addressed include fatigue, muscle weakness, dropped foot, gait, balance, and nystagmus. The benefits of exercising intermittently verses continuously are discussed. In the second segment of the course Dr. Karpatkin and Dr. Carole Lewis provide background information about MS, myths and facts about the disease, and a commentary and explanation of the evaluation and treatment principles that were utilized and the evidence based principles that guided Dr. Karpatkin clinical decision-making. This course will give you new treatment and evaluation strategies that you can use immediately with this population.
