Supervising Physician Assistants in Louisiana

After completion of this course, applicants for an SP Permit should be able to:

• Describe the mutual responsibilities and obligations of supervising physicians and the physician assistants they supervise.
• Apply the laws and rules of the state of Louisiana as they pertain to the supervision and practice of physician assistants in the state.
• Explain the process of registration for and delegation of prescriptive authority for legend and controlled drugs by physicians to physician assistants
• Demonstrate understanding of the different supervisory and chart review requirements depending upon the experience of the physician assistant and the locations of the physician's primary practice site and the physician assistant being supervised.
• Demonstrate understanding of the documents and documentation relevant to the supervision of physician assistants by physicians: notice of intent, clinical practice guidelines, credentials file and performance plan.
