Diabetes: An Overview for Behavioral Health Professionals
Tracking # 20-793532
Course overview
Behavioral health professionals often work with clients who have one or more behavioral health disorder and diabetes. Diabetes is a chronic medical condition requiring self-care to manage and prevent complications. Researchers believe there is a bi-directional relationship between behavioral health conditions and diabetes (Balhara & Kalra, 2015). As such, behavioral health providers need to be familiar with how they can best help clients effectively manage both their physical and behavioral health conditions. The goal of this course is to provide professional counselors, marriage and family therapists, addictions counselors, social workers, and nurses in health and human services settings with information about strategies for helping clients effectively manage type 1 or type 2 diabetes.
