Course overview

This module builds on basic principles of pain assessment and management with a focus on pain in palliative care uniquely fitting for neonates, infants, children, and adolescents. The interdisciplinary team and the comprehensive assessments they perform are key as they work with this population and their families to develop a plan to treat and manage pain. We are all aware of the many barriers that impede pain assessment and treatment. That is why it is vital that all healthcare professionals work collaboratively to prevent and/or decrease these barriers. Your role is very important, as you contribute your expertise in providing impeccable care to these vulnerable children to prevent suffering. The goal of this course is to provide nurses in hospice and palliative care with knowledge of pain management in pediatric palliative care.
