Course overview

This presentation provides a review of the literature and a summary of some important physiologic and pathophysiologic basis for pain in our patients, highlighting the importance of early recognition, prevention and prompt treatment of pain. Therapies discussed for chronic pain will include baseline dietary, complementary, physical medicine modalities, progressing through anti-inflammatory and oral opioids, to more advanced locoregional and infusion therapies. Chronic medical pain conditions such as that resulting from trauma, surgical intervention, degenerative disease (osteoarthritis), and neurologic impairments in cats and dogs will be the focus of the seminar.
