Course overview

Speech-language pathologists foster vocabulary development by embedding evidence-based practices within therapy activities. This course will discuss the well-documented relationship between vocabulary and reading and will present two approaches for selecting vocabulary words and nine techniques for teaching vocabulary. Therapy activities to infer meaning from idioms will be discussed. Participants will learn over 80 vocabulary intervention activities throughout this course, including 20 "ready-to-use" activities from preschool age through adolescent students. Participants will leave this course with a framework to enhance vocabulary development.
