This course focuses on MCI assessment. MCI is often a harbinger of Alzheimer's or other dementia producing disease. Early identification provides those affected with options for pharmacologic intervention and cognitive and linguistic stimulation therapies that can delay or prevent evolution to dementia. Topics presented during this course will include: types of MCI; differentiating MCI from healthy aging and dementia; signature cognitive features of Alzheimer's MCI and other pathologies associated with MCI; research-based guidelines that promote testing validity; characteristics of good screening tests and neuropsychological test batteries; and factors to consider when interpreting performance data and counseling clients.
