Course overview

Proper functioning of the endocrine system is essential to checks and balances that maintain internal equilibrium. Antidiuretic hormone (ADH) plays a major role in controlling fluid balance. The release of ADH is initiated when the body recognizes a low circulating blood volume causing an increase in water absorption. Syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone (SIADH) is a condition in which the body has an increased response to ADH or an excessive amount of ADH is secreted.
