Students will learn about serious mental illness (SMI) in young adults; understand how SMI causes significant functional impairment and substantially interferes with or limits one or more major life activities; effective treatment interventions for young adults with SMI; the benefits of treatment interventions which improve health outcomes for people at risk for, experiencing, or recovering from mental and/or substance use disorders; and recognize protective and risk factors for young adults with SMI.
