Learn moreCourse overview
This online course addresses protocols, logistics, goals and collaborative factors related to implementing a restorative rehabilitation dining program in your facility. Individual therapy provided in a therapy room is an appropriate environment to teach swallowing techniques such as maneuvers, positioning, adaptive equipment, sensory stimulation, and/or memory strategies to improve swallowing safety and efficiency. A real mealtime experience, however, is necessary to determine if these skills are being generalized safely to the dining environment as a client eats with fellow residents or family members. Participants will learn to identify ideal patient candidates for rehabilitation dining programs, and learn the necessary steps to successfully implement rehab dining programs. Presented will be providing co-treatments with other rehab dining team members, policies and procedures related to rehab dining programs, how to document these important services, and how to safely advance diet consistencies. Added benefits of increased socialization and counseling opportunities will be discussed.
