Course overview

This online course is designed to contribute and advance counseling skills for the SLP. You will learn a variety of counseling tools and techniques which can be applied to both adult and pediatric clients. Many aspects of a strengths-based approach, solution focused brief therapy (SFBT), and cognitive therapy (CT) will be addressed providing you with tools for building client self-esteem, self-confidence, and motivation. All of the above will contribute an essential component for assessment and treatment of the whole individual in the context of his or her life. The presentation will guide you through various counseling programs in easy to follow sequences. You will be given multiple opportunities to engage with the material in preparation for integration into their practice with clients and their families. You will learn to emphasize strengths, elaborate on goals to achieve maximum success, and reframe negative thinking styles related to communication disorders.
