Course overview

ESOPHAGEAL REFLUX IS CONSIDERED THE MOST COMMON DISEASE ENCOUNTERED BY GASTROENTEROLOGISTS, AND IT CONTRIBUTES TO A LARGE PROPORTION OF CASES TREATED BY PRIMARY CARE PROVIDERS. ESOPHAGEAL REFLUX DISEASE IS DEFINED AS A CONDITION IN WHICH THE STOMACH CONTENTS REFLUX INTO THE ESOPHAGUS OR BEYOND (ORAL CAVITY, LARYNX, OR THE LUNGS), CAUSING TROUBLESOME SYMPTOMS AND COMPLICATIONS. THIS ACTIVITY REVIEWS THE EVALUATION AND MANAGEMENT OF ESOPHAGEAL REFLUX AND HIGHLIGHTS THE ROLE OF THE INTERPROFESSIONAL TEAM IN EVALUATING AND IMPROVING CARE FOR PATIENTS SUFFERING FROM ESOPHAGEAL REFLUX.
