Involuntary Commitment: Historical Trends, Principles, Law, and Practice

Course overview

Students will learn about the origins and current status of involuntary commitment; the principles that guide involuntary commitment; in what circumstances mental health professionals are justified to commit patients; the standards and procedures for commitment as provided by state law, in every state; and the specific requirements for involuntarily inpatient and outpatient commitment. Upon this course completion, students will earn four hours of continuing education.
