Course overview

Oral motor feeding disorders are quite common in the world of pediatric feeding disorders. It is important that the speech-language pathologist who is working with this population understand the sensory innervation and muscle movements that contribute to such areas of deficits. The exercises that we use with children to improve their overall oral motor functioning must be chosen based on the child's needs and overall tolerance to the therapeutic process. We also need to be aware of the underlying support that the body provides to the oral motor system. The body works as a whole for oral motor feeding success. This course includes video examples, case studies, lab practice and application activities. Research on various topics regarding pediatric oral motor feeding disorders will be discussed.
