Healthcare reform is coming. Are you ready? The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) has proposed a new reimbursement methodology for SNF inpatient services (Medicare Part A) called the Patient Driven Payment Model (PDPM). This new payment system replaces reimbursement based on RUG levels with reimbursement based on resident characteristics. Nowhere will the impact be more acutely felt than in the provision of therapy services. Therapists will have to work closely with the interdisciplinary team and the MDS department in order to assure accurate coding and document appropriately. Now is the time to prepare for these sweeping changes from volume-based care to value-based care. This course will cover the basics of what you need to know about PDPM, how to establish your value in the MDS reimbursement process, and discuss ways that speech-language pathologists can modify their practice to readily adapt to these changes. Final rule on PDPM for skilled nursing facilities is included.
