Course overview

The multiple possible breast cancer treatment-related sequelae make it important for the physical therapist to have a significant role on the oncology treatment team. The client-centered and holistic approach of a physical therapist is vital, as it enables individuals with breast cancer to re-engage in meaningful physical activity and functional mobility. At a time when breast cancer survivors feel out of control because of their new world of seemingly endless medical interventions, an approach that empowers them to take an active approach to control the controllable has proven to be of great importance to this patient population. This intermediate-level course will provide a critical review of current evidence to inform physical therapy best practice for the breast cancer patient population. Upon fulfilling the course objectives, practitioners will be prepared to develop an evidence-based approach to the evaluation and treatment of individuals with breast cancer throughout the survivorship continuum.
