Course overview

Presents a solid foundation in pediatric pharmacotherapy and describes the physiologic basis for the administration of common medications as well as the nursing implications of medication therapy in the pediatric patient. COURSE OBJECTIVES: Describe the principles of pharmacodynamics and pharmacotherapeutics and indicate the impact of physiological differences between the very young and the older child on drug administration Specify the classifications of cardio-respiratory, gastro-intestinal and genito-urinary medications Recognize which vaccines and antibiotic medications are commonly used in the pediatric population Identify neurological and pain medications Specify common conditions that may benefit from dermatological medications
