Course overview

Students will learn about evidence-based treatment practices that have demonstrated improved outcomes for individuals who use more than one substance; genetic and environmental protective and risk factors that influence whether a person uses or misuses specific substances; concurrent substance use disorders; prevalence rates of heavy alcohol use by race and ethnicity; potential adverse acute and medical effects of combining substances; three specific evidence-based treatment practices that improve outcomes; and treatment plans for multiple substances. Upon this course completion, students will earn four hours of continuing education.
