What you'll learn
At the end of this course, nurses will be able to:
- Define child abuse and its scope.
- Identify different characteristics and/or behaviors of perpetrators of child abuse.
- Recognize the signs, symptoms, and long-term consequences of child abuse and neglect.
- Identify patients at increased risk for abuse or neglect.
- Identify and utilize appropriate nursing diagnoses and interventions for child abuse and neglect.
- Identify and utilize best practices when responding to cases of child abuse.
- Define a mandated reporter and his/her responsibilities.
Course overview
Child abuse and neglect can be an exceptionally tricky subject for many people. As nurses, we have to recognize and understand how we should act as patient advocates for our pediatric patients, especially when there are signs and symptoms of child abuse and neglect. This course will help you understand what child abuse looks like in the real world and what we can do to help them and their families to develop healthier habits and behaviors. This course is equivalent to two (2) contact hours, and it can be easily accessed on mobile phone or computer.
