Course overview
Medications are an integral component in the care of those with psychological diagnoses. Drugs used for behavioral problems and depression may affect appetite or overall health. Some drugs may have serious side effects. This course will review the functions of the central nervous system (CNS), conditions affecting the CNS, pharmaceutical interventions for behavioral issues, and the impact of psychotropic medications on the nutritional status of adults and older adults. Included is a brief overview of the major points surrounding psychotropic drug use in long-term care/skilled nursing facilities.
