Course overview
It is estimated more than 40% of all adults in the U.S. are experiencing obesity, and 10% of adults in the U.S. can be described as experiencing severe obesity (BMI is greater than 40). Obesity has an impact on all aspects of a patient's clinical presentation and plan of care. This foundational course will review the physiology of obesity. Through a series of case examples including patients recovering from elective surgery, low back pain, and post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC), physical and occupational therapy professionals will learn effective patient management techniques and clinical pearls for working with this population.
