Course overview
This module reviews palliative care for patients with heart failure. You will develop an understanding of the disease process of heart failure and its management in accordance with 2013 American College of Cardiology Foundation (ACCF)/American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines for the management of heart failure and their focused updates to the guidelines. In addition, you will learn when palliative care for patients with heart failure is appropriate, effective symptom management for heart failure, the importance of developing goals of care with the heart failure patient, and criteria for referral to hospice. The goal of this course is to provide nurses in hospice and palliative care with knowledge of how to optimize palliative care for patients with heart failure.
