Course overview

There is no doubt that improving the quality of healthcare services has been a national priority in the U.S. for the last several decades, and home health care is no exception. Since the beginning of OASIS in 1999, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has required home health agencies to assess and report the quality of delivered care and seek ways to improve patient outcomes. To further emphasize the importance of quality healthcare, CMS developed the Home Health Compare website, which publicly reports OASIS-based quality performance information (CMS, 2020a). Quality Assessment Performance Improvement, or QAPI, is a tool that home health agencies use to help identify issues within their organization and with the care delivered to patients. Once these issues are identified, QAPI allows the agency to focus their goals and create a plan that will guide them to improvement. In this course, you will learn the role that QAPI has in improving healthcare quality and the fundamental principles of QAPI. The goal of this educational program is to provide nursing professionals in home health with education about QAPI.
