Stress means different things to different people. It has been described as the most imprecise word in the scientific dictionary. There are literally hundreds of definitions for stress in research and professional literature. In the funeral home environment stress takes its toll in many different physical and mental ways. It impacts the health of both employee and business. It can be tied to accidents, absenteeism, turnover, increased health care costs and decreases in the quality of service we deliver. The client base of the funeral home does not want to be there and so their tension and anxiety level is high. The time elements for preparing for and conducting a service are demanding, resembling that of a starters pistol when the telephone rings. You are expected to go from zero to brake neck speed in the twinkling of an eye and there is little room for error. Understanding your own levels of stress and the stress levels of other is the cornerstone for personal success and reward. This course offers a basic understanding of stress.
